High Pressure Science Society of America, (HiPSSA) will host the 9th meeting of the Study of Matter at Extreme Conditions (SMEC). The focus of the meeting will be to promote interdisciplinary research in the fields of geophysics, solid state physics, high pressure physics and chemistry and materials science. The meeting will be held April 1-9, 2017 on a cruise ship sailing from the port of Fort Lauderdale, Florida to the Caribbean Islands (PORTS OF CALL: FORT LAUDERDALE, FLORIDA; LABADEE, HAITI; SAN JUAN, PUERTO RICO; PHILIPSBURG, ST. MAARTEN; BASSETERRE, ST KITTS & NEVIS; FORT LAUDERDALE, FLORIDA).

Program

The conference will cover interdisciplinary experimental and theoretical topics in the following areas:

- High-pressure mineral physics and chemistry
- High-pressure research on energy materials
- High-pressure physics at the nanoscale
- Computational material science at high pressure
- Spectroscopy of materials at high pressure
- Strong electronic correlations under extreme conditions
- Inhomogeneous superconductors and related functional Materials
- Quantum functional materials at high pressure
- Dynamical stability of materials at high pressure
- Hydrogen and hydrides 
- Geomaterials at environmental conditions

We invite colleagues to organize sympoosium in any of these areas. Closely similar topics will be combined and co-chaired.

Abstract submission deadline is February 15, 2017.

    Poster presenters are requested to give an oral presentation for 10 minutes or less. The oral session will be followed by poster presentations.

    Conference Fee

    Regular registration fee: $150 ($200 after Feb 15, 2017)
    Students: $75 ($100 after Feb 15, 2017)
    Accompanying person: Free

    Conference fees are full-refundable before Feb 15, 2017

    Conference fees are non-refundable after Feb 15, 2017, except under extenuating circumstances.
