Information about manuscript submission to J. Phys. Chem. Sol.
------------------------------------------------
Preparation to submission of the Manuscript:
The deadline for the submission has been EXTENDED to July 15, 2009
Allowed length for the papers is 4 to 6 printed journal pages. No need to
prepare camera-ready copy as the manuscripts will be typeset after the review
process. All authors will receive page proofs of the manuscript. The authors
should provide electronic version of the manuscript (text as well as the
figures) along with a PDF file.
The manuscript should be submitted to the corresponding editors by e-mail:
Dr. Helene Couvy (sessions: High Pressure, Earth Sciences): helene.couvy@gmail.com
Prof. R. Ahuja (sessions: Hydrogen Storage,Computation): Rajeev.Ahuja@fysik.uu.se
Prof. N.L. Saini (sessions: BDQL,Synchrotron,Bio): naurang.saini@roma1.infn.it
The authors should also provide a list of at least four potential referees.
The Journal of Physics and Chemistry of Solids publishes in a double column
format. Each column is 22.5 cm long; there are 2.5 journal lines/cm or 21
words/cm (effective numbers, which take various formatting factors during
typesetting into account.). The space needed to accommodate the title, abstract
(of about 100 words), author affiliation, and related blank spaces, is about
0.5 journal pages. This leaves you with the allowed length between 3.5-5.5
pages. Approximately you have about 1100 words per journal page available
assuming that there are no figures, tables or equations.
For a figure, table or an equation which can fit in one column width (i.e., is
legible with a width of not more than 7.0cm), estimate an effective vertical
height by adding 2 cm to the actual height in order to account for the blank
spaces necessary to separate a figure, table or an equation from the text.
Then reduce the words by 21 words/cm, taking into account all figures, tables,
and equations (e.g. a one column figure of 7.0 cm needs 9.0 cm effective
vertical length, i.e. 189 words). If a figure, table or an equation to be
placed across the page (i.e. two columns), double the estimate. It should be
noted that the text here refers to all text including the figure captions,
references, etc.

High Pressure Science Society of America, (HiPSSA) will host the fifth meeting of the Study of Matter at Extreme Conditions (SMEC). The focus of the meeting will be to promote interdisciplinary research in the fields of geophysics, solid state physics, high pressure physics and chemistry and materials science. The meeting will be held from March 28 to April 2nd on a cruise ship sailing from the port of Miami to the Caribbean Islands.
(Contributed paper for oral presentation will be accommodated if there is a time slot available, otherwise it will be presented as a poster.)

Instructions on arrival for March 28
If you are staying in a hotel, try to get the shuttle bus, if any, or taxi by 10:30 am or earlier to the Port of Miami. You are going to the Celebrity Cruise Lines.
If you are arriving to one of the two airports, MIA or Fort Lauderdale make sure that your flight arrival time is latest by noon. It will be about 30 min taxi from MIA and 45 min from Ft. Lauderdale costing you $40 to $70.
Boarding the ship
Make sure that you have printed your boarding card on line and filled out other form as given in the instruction elsewhere on this webpage.
The boarding is expected to begin around 11:30 am. If you have carry on baggage only then yoy may want to walk in with it, otherwise you can check in at the curb side with the Celebrity porters. The bags will be delivered to your room at no charge. A couple of dollars in tip at the curbside is OK.
You will then have to go to one of the ship agents inside who will check you in. After which you have to go through immigration and customs. Please check the information on what you can bring aboard elsewhere on this webpage.
On the ship
There is no special area for SMEC lunch. You can go to the lunch buffet on your own. There will be SMEC registration desk in the reception area.
What is included
Please remember that all food and non-alcoholic beverages are included in the price as also all the tips. We have a SMEC dining area for dinners at 8:30 pm but you may also dine in other places and at other times as you wish. Room service is also free at all times. For breakfast you may choose any restaurant or buffet; there will be no special areas for us.
The two SMEC events are: Sunday evening cocktail reception at 7 pm and the Banquet dinner on Wednesday.
Land tours:
Please check the SMEC schedule and arrange your reservations on the ship's website or on arrival at the ship's reception desk. SMEC organizers will not be able to do this.
Checkout
Please check the ship announcements. Those who have to disembark early should follow the instructions from the ship crew.
Prior to your departure
Please check-in online for a quicker embarkation process. Go to
www.celebritycruises.com/checkinonline
and complete your immigration documents and embarkation form. You will need to provide your reservation information. Print your documents and boarding pass three days prior to departure.
This will save you time when you check-in at the pier.
If you need assistance with your Online Check-in, please call 1-877-200-2897.
Important: Celebrity Cruises requires guests to be checked in no later than 60 minutes prior to the scheduled sailing time.* Guests arriving late will not be permitted to sail. This is due to government regulations in some ports that require cruise lines to submit a departure manifest 60 minutes prior to sailing. Guests are requested to complete Online Check-in at no later than 3 DAYS prior to the cruise in order to expedite the pier check-in process.
Check-in opens at 11 AM, boarding at 1 PM. Participants staying in hotels reserved by the SMEC travel agent may catch the shuttle buses in the morning.
Once on board be sure to check in with the SMEC representative at the Hospitality/SMEC2009 Registration desk, where you can pick up your cruise contract and SMEC2009 conference materials.
